Mushrooms fight back
The Mushroom starts throwing pieces of its cap, enemies appear in a puff of smoke, the Heart Potion gets real art, and menus and dialogues switch to a glassy blue look.
After five very busy weeks, a calmer one: 16 commits, no new version (everything from here until early October went into 0.20.0), but a good number of changes you can see and feel.
The Mushroom throws things
The purple placeholder rectangle that fired orange orbs is gone, and its ranged attack now belongs to the Mushroom. When Ash is in front of it and close enough, the Mushroom stops, winds up and hurls a spinning chunk of its own cap. The throw follows a low arc that’s slightly different every time, and the piece breaks on the first thing it hits. A raised shield sends it bouncing back, and hitting the Mushroom during the wind-up cancels the throw.
A puff of smoke
Enemies no longer pop into existence out of nowhere. Every spawn and respawn starts with a quick puff of smoke, and the enemy only appears once the cloud is nearly at its biggest.

The empty part of the enemy health bar is now transparent, so only the remaining red health is drawn.
Glass menus
The pause menu, its cards, the dialogue box and the save-slot cards switch from dark parchment to a translucent blue glass with a light reflection on top, the same look as the coin counter in the HUD. (It won’t last forever: five weeks later they turned gold.)

Using a consumable from the menu now asks for confirmation, so a potion is no longer drunk by accident.
Shops
The Heart Potion has real pixel art instead of a red circle. Potions can be bought again and again, while equipment disappears from the counter once you own it, even if you found it somewhere else.

And also
- Ash has a proper swimming animation, with and without the sword.
- The arrows over doors fade in and out instead of popping.
- Where Ash appears in each area is now a point you can see and drag in Tiled, and the parallax backgrounds load straight from the maps.
- The HUD got much cheaper to draw: from several milliseconds per frame to about 0.1 ms.

By the numbers
- 16 commits.
- No new version: these changes shipped in 0.20.0, on 9 October.
